Landé Belo wins Best Producer 2024!

Black British Theatre Awards 2024

Winner of the Best Producer 2024 award at the fantastic BBTA event on 4 Nov 2024! Landé had also been nominated in the Best Director category, and 'Ain't I A Woman?' in the Best Production - Play category.

Winner - The Barbara Waddell 2024 Award

On 15 October 2024 Landé Belo was honoured by Tower Theatre with the 'The Barbara Waddell Award' in recognition for a significant contribution to the theatre company over the past 8 years. She is the first black person to receive this award and one of the few black people to be awarded for anything at the Tower Theatre in the company's 92 years of existence.


Her track record at Tower Theatre includes many firsts:

  • Fix Up - first black female director.
  • In 2019 she became an Assistant Artistic Director at Tower and the first black person on  the theatre's artist direction team.
  • During her tenure on the artistic direction team (2019-2021), she was responsible for programming 3 plays written by black women: 'Sweat', 'Mules', and 'Nine Night'.  
  • In 2020 she set up the Community Engagement Team at Tower Theatre and went on to help set up the EDI Team
  • In 2021 she joined the Tower Theatre Board of Trustees being the first black person to be a Trustee at Tower Theatre.
  • 'I can't breathe: Being black in the time of Covid' included new writing by black writers, for the first time at Tower Theatre. 
  • In 2023 she became co-Artistic Director at Tower Theatre being the first black person to be an Artistic Director at Tower Theatre.
  • 'Ain't I A Woman' included mainly black and female creative team: writers, directors, costume designer, set designer, composer, musical director, movement director.
